Playing for pride Bangalore Royal Challengers stunned ’semi-conscious’ Chennai Superkings in an encounter at Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The result is definitely a wake-up call for overconfident Superkings and of course a consolation win for the Royal Challengers.
Being in a good position to make it to the semi-final, the Superkings bowling first restricted Royal Challengers to a paltry total of 126 in 20 overs. From there victory for the Superkings was obvious, in fact in the innings break there was a discussion among the television hosts over how many overs the Superkings would take to finish the game.
Chasing the modest total Superkings were at one stage 85/2. Then all of a sudden wickets fell in a hurry thanks to a combination of good bowling by Kumble, Steyn and poor shot selection by the Chennai batsmen. After the completion of 20 overs they managed to score just 112/8 - a poor performance from a team which is one of the favorites to win the league.
As as a result of this victory the Royal Challengers are no longer at the bottom of the table and from the perspective of the Chennai Superkings, the path to the semis has become tougher. They need to buckle-up and win rest of their matches to make it to the top four!
